I'll be honest, what first drew me to Vicki Davis' blog was the name, The Cool Cat Teacher. Already I could tell that she is an educator who wants to relate to her students and keep up with the current culture her students are probably engrossed in. Upon perusing her "About" page, I came upon her links for "first timers" to her blog. This post immediately captured my eye, 10 Ways to Flip A Kid. What I like specifically about this post is that we can all relate to it. Student, teacher, parent, anyone! We've all had days where something insignificant will set us over the edge and we become someone who is not ourselves. As Vicki puts it, when she notices a child acting abnormally, she takes them aside and asks, "What on Earth was that?" As teachers, we have to be empathetic to our students, and realize that they will have weak moments and they need to know someone cares. Along with finding ways to inspire and relate to kids, Vicki's other passion is technology in teaching. Her site is filled with great resources that use new methods for teaching, as well as managing your life outside of your classroom. The best part is, she has How-To guides for those teachers who maybe aren't as tech-savvy as she is. She also has a free newsletter for teachers, which provides resources and ideas about classroom management, organization, and best practice ideas! Sign up for the newsletter here.
