Connecting Students to Nature is all about inspiring them to interact and explore their environment. Granted, not all students will be able to scare a sloth like the great Mr. Attenborough, but no matter the environment or age, students can find life around them.
The book states that the more time students spend in a natural environment (meaning, being outside), the more creative they are, the more resilient they are, and the less stress they feel. While this has been proven by research, it's extremely logical. Almost everyone has felt this phenomena. When I was in school and it was a beautiful day out, almost every student would ask the teacher if we could have class outside. Even in college students still ask professors if we could have class on the Quad today. Projects and learning like this get kids out of the box (meaning, the same old classroom) and into the real world. |
